Day 1
Board the yacht in Marmaris at midday and sail for Kumlu Buku for
lunch beneath the ruins of ancient Amos.
Day 2 Sail south for Serce Harbour and enjoy
lunch at anchor in this land-locked bay. It was here that Dr.
George Bass and his team of archaeologists uncovered glass objects
and other items of trade from an 11th-century wreck. Heading
further south, we proceed to Bozukkale and anchor beneath the
Hellenistic citadel of Ancient Loryma - primarily used as a
harbour of refuge for trade ships heading north and south along
the coast. Take time ashore to visit the ruins of this once
important city. A spectacular view makes a climb to the acropolis
well worthwhile. Overnight here in Bozukkale.
Day 3 Sail across to the Bay of Ekincik and spend
the night at anchor in the southern side of the bay. Towards dusk,
go ashore and dine at "My Marina" restaurant overlooking the bay.
Day 4 Following breakfast we board a small river
boat for our tour of ancient Caunos and Dalyan. We make our way
inland along the reed-lined channels of the Dalyan River delta,
keeping an eye out for turtles, herons and kingfishers. At Caunos
visit the remains of a theatre, a Byzantine church, a Roman bath
house and an Agora. For the adventurous, there is an acropolis on
the hill above the site which rewards the climber with a
magnificent view of the entire area. As we head up-river to the
town of Dalyan, we pass beneath some impressive Lycian rock tombs.
Enjoy a brief stroll through the town before returning to the
yacht in Ekincik. Overnight in Kizilkuyruk Harbour, a quiet place
to anchor with a pebbled beach ashore and an uphill track leading
to the ruins of ancient Lydae.
Day 5 Crossing the Gulf of Fethiye, we reach
Gemiler Island by lunchtime. Following a relaxing afternoon of
swimming and snorkelling over sunken ruins, we take a tender boat
ashore to explore the island. Walk around the remains of a
sizeable Byzantine settlement and see a beautiful mosaic in one of
the churches. Marvel at the covered walkway and peer into
dwellings and a cistern. Take advantage of the fabulous view from
the summit and sit down with champagne glass in hand and watch the
sun set over the sea. Dinner at a quaint restaurant ashore.
Day 6 Sailing back into the Gulf of Fethiye, our
destination is Manastir Bay and the delightful anchorage known as
"Cleopatra's Bay". Take a walk in the fragrant pine forest or take
part in some fun watersports. At the end of the day, snorkel over
to the partially-submerged ruins of a monastery at the waters edge
and spend an hour exploring underwater. Dine out local style in a
restaurant near the waters edge.
Day 7 Cruise to Sarsala Bay for a morning swim in
crystal-clear waters, followed by lunch in the small harbour on
Tersane island. Tersane was a ship building settlement and there
are numerous ruins dating from Byzantine times and later. Tersane
is also a well sheltered anchorage, ideal for watersports. Our
destination is Tomb Bay, named after the temple-tombs and pigeon-hole
tombs carved in the cliffs above. These tombs can be reached by
taking a short climb up the hill from the beach.
Day 8 Disembarkation in Gocek.
